Where the Magic Happens!
Have you ever heard of an Ironman race? A 3.8km swim, followed by a 180km bike ride and a 42.2km marathon run. All in just 10 hours!…
…and have you ever heard of the best resort in the world? 100% guest satisfaction, incredibly high repeat guest ratio, and great international reputation! All on a little island in the Indian ocean….
I must admit, both sound impossible to achieve, but they are not. Nothing is impossible, the word itself says “I’m-possible”. For sure it is not easy. We cannot achieve great results without great efforts.
I have come to One & Only Reethi Rah to make both happen. I am training for my upcoming Ironman races and I want to be part of the team that makes Reethi Rah the best resort in the world and as strange it may sound: the one helps me to achieve the other.
In all my previous endurance races I have realized that I only can achieve my goals, if I am willing to leave my comfort zone. It would be very comfortable to walk a marathon, but if I want to beat my personal record, I have to run fast, sweat a lot and get over the pain in my legs.
The same goes for my job. If I’m too comfortable in my daily work, the hotel might still do well because of its nice beaches, large villas and beautiful weather. However, if I want to achieve extraordinary results, I have to get up every morning and thrive for perfection, I have to spend time with my guests and constantly look for details to improve.
Both, racing and working require a long term plan. I need to train for many months to be able to survive an Ironman. I also need to provide top service consistently, not only once in a while. If I am willing to do that, results will slowly come; I will run faster for longer, I will see more happy guests on more occasions.
So it’s all about leaving our comfort zone. We have to wake up every morning and ask ourselves “How bad do we really want it?” How much work are we willing to put forth for the things and goals we want to accomplish in our lives? Nothing great comes without effort. But I am convinced, if it’s something of great meaning to us, every risk, every step, and every drop of sweat will be worth it and bring us closer to where “the magic happens.”
The magic is to me, our One & Only ‘WOW’ moments, the smiles of our guests, the little things that separate us from the competition. Also, the financial results we achieve and the high service charge. It is everything that we would not get without working hard.
I will keep on training every day to get to the magical moment of crossing the Ironman finish line. My training will also remind me to leave my comfort zone at work, to walk the extra mile and to exceed guest expectations. I do it, because it’s worth it and I trust everyone can do it. Everyone can get to the place, where “the magic happens” and achieve their personal best in their own way.
